Note: The Facebook Messenger Lite app is available for Android only (from Gingerbread to Marshmallow). Currently, Facebook Messenger Lite is available to people in Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Tunisia, Venezuela, and Kenya. Facebook developed this app keeping in mind of the countries with a slower Internet connection and also for the people with low phone storage. So, Facebook has come up with its own lite version of Facebook Messenger in order to encourage even those users to install Facebook Messenger who do not have enough space in the phone, or where mobile data is expensive. But, most of the third-party apps are not stable which make them irritating sometimes.
People who are short on phone storage generally look for a third-party lite version of Facebook Messenger as the official one is quite heavyweight and consumes a huge amount of storage. Facebook mentioned the size of the Messenger Lite app is below 10 MB in their newsroom and after downloading it I found the size of the app is only 5.42 MB (which is of course very less than the size of original Facebook Messenger app, which is close to 40 MB). The best part of this app is that it is lightweight and can be installed and opened in a flash. In addition to that, you will also be able to receive stickers but can’t send them as it doesn’t have any native options to do so. It offers almost all the features of Facebook Messenger app and you’ll be able to send and receive text messages, photos, and links from everyone using Messenger Lite or Facebook Messenger. It is much faster than the original Messenger app and can work perfectly in all network conditions (2G, 3G, 4G, and LTE) and also uses very less amount of mobile data.
